Scion Aviation is an AS9100 certified aerospace supplier of design and engineering services and fabricator of precision composite structure molds. Scion, under the leadership of Jim and Betsy Sampson, has built a solid reputation for developing projects that range from individual carbon fiber components to flying prototypes for some of the most impressive new fixed wing and VTOL aircraft in the world. Scion will design and fabricate the molds for the fuselage and all flying surfaces of the Explorer Aircraft and ensure a rapid move through testing, certification and manufacture.
Abbott Aerospace has been helping aerospace companies with modification programs and aircraft startups with composite structures development for over 11 years. Richard Abbott has over 25 years experience in aerospace product development. He currently holds technical leadership roles in two composite aircraft programs (Stratos 714 & Otto Aviation Celera). He has consulted for and advised many established and emerging companies: Piper, Mooney, Marenco Swiss Helicopter, Glasair, Diamond Aircraft, Samad, Icon Aircraft, Solarship, ALP, Bombardier, Boom, PV Labs, Elsevier, DeLorean Aerospace, ITPS and Kestrel. Richard is the author of "Analysis and Design of Composite and Metallic Flight Vehicle Structures" and hundreds of analysis tools that are used all over the world. He teaches courses in Engineering Management and Structures Engineering at the University College of the Cayman Islands.
Richard and the members of his firm can produce clean sheet designs from configuration to certification including management of composite and metallic structures, mechanical systems, landing gear and loads engineering. Abbott is working with Explorer to generate and validate the structural designs of it’s aircraft so that design and certification can proceed on schedule.
